Barnstaple’s New Years Eve celebrations will be going off with a bang this year as organisers promise a night to remember.
Plans have been underway since January to offer the people of Barnstaple a family event on New Years Eve.
The ‘party’ will take place on the new-look Square, and will see a live music stage with presenters hosting a range of fun and games for the families.
Other attractions will include bouncy castles and trampolines for the children and an impressive fireworks display at midnight.
The event is run by volunteers who will not personally gain from the event, but money raised will go to this year’s nominated charity, which is the North Devon Hospice. The working party consists of members from Barnstaple Town Council, Town Centre Management, Chapple Entertainment and the North Devon Hospice.
Ali Hunt from the North Devon Hospice said “The Hospice needs to raise £2.5m every year to provide our care services to the people of North Devon, and it’s events such as this which really help! So many peoples lives are touched by the life threatening illnesses we see at the Hospice and we really appreciate those who donate to us.”
New Years Eve Co-organiser James Chapple of Chapple Entertainment says: “To make this event happen, we really need the support from local businesses. We are offering a range of sponsorship opportunities, with banners and mentions on the main stage”
He added, “If any businesses would like to get involved in this charity event, please call the event line or visit the web site”
The event is not aimed at rivalling the Bideford Celebrations, but is to offer people an alternative. The event will hopefully bring a large number of people into the town and will be the start of something big!
