On Wednesday 23rd July 2008, Bernadette Holland from Sticklepath will take part in an Icelandic Lava Trek, hosted by Charity  challenge, to raise money for the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA).
The challenge will be to walk through one of the most actively volcanic areas in Iceland, with difficult terrain, glaciers and steaming lava fields, and to help set up the camp in the evening, which Bernadette says will be a challenge in itself!
The 20 year old is taking part in the event to raise money for the charity to help the lives of all cruelly treated wild animals, such as the bears who suffer constantly from bear dancing, bile farming and bear baiting and the barbaric hunts of Wales which can take up to an hour to die painfully.
Bernadette said ''I have never done anything like this before so it will be an adventure but I am looking forward to it as a personal challenge, and a way to raise money for a great cause''.
To sponsor Bernadette, pop into Barnstaple Pannier Market on a Tuesday where she is also making unique, handmade Christmas cakes to order with the money taken going to WSPA and selling WSPA pens, badges and car stickers.
