North Devon art competition open for entries.

A prestigious local art competition is now open for submissions and winners will have the chance to display their work as part of a successful art show.

The competition, organised by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, will be used to select approximately ten artists to exhibit their creations in the sixth annual North Devon Art Show.

A panel of judges from North Devon Theatres Trust, North Devon Arts, Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon and the new North Devon College School of Art will select the winning entries and chosen artists will be invited to display their work in locations owned by each organisation.

The competition is open to people using many different art forms and the criteria for submissions are:

Artists must live in Northern Devon or their work must be inspired by the area
Work must be created recently and not already exhibited elsewhere.
Work can be submitted in any format including paint, drawing, mixed media, sculpture, textiles, digital art, sound, installation, internet/networks, new media, ceramics and crafts.

Cllr David Butt, Lead Member for Cultural Services (Youth and Diversity) says: “The Annual North Devon Art Show is tremendously popular and the standard of submissions is always exceptional. It is a fantastic opportunity for local artists to exhibit their work and I would like to encourage as many people as possible to have a go. Don't worry if it's your first time, art is for everyone, young or old, new or experienced.”

The closing date for submissions is Monday, 10th December and selected entries will be displayed as part of the North Devon Arts Show from 19th January to 1st March 2008.
