Editorial:
As with so many young boys, Bob Burrows’ biggest influence was his Dad and from as far back as Bob can remember, his Dad had many different Volkswagens throughout the years. Bob has fond memories of lots of them, but perhaps the best memories were of the campervans.
He found a 1967 Split Screen bus for sale in Poole, Dorset. It was a 13 window Deluxe, which originally would have been a mini bus. It had originally been sold in Mississippi, USA but imported into the UK a couple of years before Bob bought it. The paint was wearing a little thin and with the original interior missing, Bob decided, with the help of Beetlebank in Westward Ho! to restore the van, adding a few personal touches along the way. They finished the bus the night before Europe’s largest indoor Volkswagen event, having been lucky enough to be accepted for it. They were also asked to do a photo shoot for the ‘Volksworld’ magazine whilst there and to top it all they came away with one of the much converted awards. Since then they have been awarded trophies at every show they have attended.
Bob also has a 1963 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible and a 2010 VW Caravelle Executive, which join the hire fleet. Bob only ever books one wedding a day to give his customers their undivided attention, arriving as early as requested on the day to allow for plenty of photographs and often they return after the speeches, perhaps to take the Bride and Groom to a nearby location to allow a relaxed photo opportunity before the evening guests arrive. It is Bob’s main objective to offer a very special selection of vehicles and a very relaxed service to add to what is already a very special day. When he reached 17 and could learn to drive, he did this in a bright orange VW panel van and then moved onto a camper, but like so many, buying a house and following other interests took over, until about 5 years ago when he decided the time was right to re-ignite his passion.
Since finishing Mr. Bo. Jangles, they were asked by some friends if they would drive them to their wedding. They had such a great day that they decided to offer the service professionally. Having exhibited at both ‘The Cedars’ and ‘Saunton Sands’ wedding fairs, Mr. Bo. Jangles has been used at quite a few weddings and the bookings are really starting to come in. Bob Burrows suggests that anyone considering booking them should get in touch sooner rather than later. They will also be attending ‘The Woolacombe Bay Hotel’ wedding fair on March 6th.
