NEW PERFORMING ARTS CLASSES FOR CHILDREN Now’s their chance, with the start of new performing arts classes in Barnstaple from September. The ‘stage school’ lessons, under the name Starstruck!, will provide tuition for children in dance, drama and singing. Starstruck! is being run by the Unlimited Dance Company, based in Barnstaple, which has staged numerous successful children’s workshops over recent years focusing on a range of performing arts. Starstruck! is aimed at girls and boys from the age of 7 upwards. Classes will be held during term time on Saturday afternoons from 2pm - 5pm in the dance studio, at the Old Ice Factory, Rolle Quay in Barnstaple, with easy access and good value parking on site. The classes start on Saturday 10th September 2011. “I am passionate about children fulfilling their potential,” says Sarah Clements, Principal of the Unlimited Dance Company. “Encouraging children to perform in front of their friends and parents can be a very effective way of raising a child’s confidence and self esteem. Feeling comfortable in the spotlight is a skill that children can use to their advantage in so many areas of their lives.” “Children have a natural musicality about them, along with wonderful enthusiasm and excitement. They can get so much out of the performing arts. They develop poise and confidence, their coordination improves and their physical fitness. They also make new friendships and learn to work as part of a team as well as perform on their own.” “I’m really pleased with our team of dance, drama and singing teachers for Starstruck!” adds Sarah. “They represent different parts of the performing arts at a high level. Many have trained in London and danced professionally or been involved in cabaret work and voice coaching. They are also experienced in working with children and are very enthusiastic about the new performing arts classes. I am also pleased with the venue for the classes, which is just a few minutes walk from the town centre, so parents can enjoy a few hours shopping or relaxing in town, while their children are having fun in a safe environment.” The price for a term’s performing arts lessons (11 weeks) is £240. Each child will also be given a free Starstruck! tee-shirt.& “We are keeping our prices as competitive as possible, as we understand the financial restraints that many families are facing because of the current economic conditions,” says Sarah. Parents are asked to ring the Unlimited Dance Company on 01271 328720 to enrol their child for the performing arts classes. Places will be booked on a first come first served basis. Members of Starstruck! will get the opportunity to perform in festivals and the Unlimited Dance Company shows, as well as Chance 2 Dance at the Northcott Theatre in Exeter. The Unlimited Dance Company was set up in 2003 and offers classes in Barnstaple and South Molton in ballet, tap, contemporary dance, modern dance, hip hop and cheerleading. Among the company’s recent successes has been its boys’ dance troupe, called The Noise. All the teaching staff at the Unlimited Dance Company are qualified and experienced. They are CRB checked and fully insured. Contact Sarah Clements on 01271 328720 or 07411 500058 to enrol your child
