Local Community Group Ben ’s Pre School Football started in April 2010 in Ilfracombe and offers both boys and girls between the ages of 2-6 the chance to learn how to play football.

Children are taught how to control, pass, shoot, throw and catch with the ball. We use a range of equipment including; mini footballs, goals, cones, skittles, bean bags and mats. This not only enables us to improve children’s basic football skills but also hand-eye coordination, balance and self confidence.

Since starting in 2010 much has happened, we are now linked with Braunton Football Club who have a great youth team set up, also we are linked with Chivenor Soccer School who are a part of Plymouth Argyles Centre of Excellence where four of our children have joined so far.

We are now sponsored by South West Water where we were able to have kits made up for the children and more recently I won a Pride of Ilfracombe Award for Positive Influence within the Community.
I am a local football coach who has worked with youth teams in both North Devon and West Oxfordshire as an assistant manager and manager. I am currently studying a BSc Hons Degree in Sports science at the University of Marjon in Plymouth. I have had work experience with Watford FC and Reading FC and in 2012 I will be having a further two work experience’s with Everton FC and Glenn Hoddles Football Academy in Southern Spain.

I am hoping that 2012 is an even better year for Ben’s Pre School Football by getting even more children involved. The more children that get involved then the longer we can continue this Community Group!

Classes are every Saturday morning at the Emmanuel Church on Wilder Road in Ilfracombe. Each class lasts for 45 minutes and costs just £2! Parent’s participation is essential! Our main aim is to have FUN with football! Your child does not have to love football to come along; we play a range of different games to keep their interest up whilst still improving their skills and personal development!
