April Police Report.

Hi to everybody,

I trust that you all had a good Easter. Only a couple of things to mention.

Firstly, vulnerable vehicles, for those of you who have seen me looking into cars, as I’m walking about and wonder what I am doing, I’m in fact looking for items that are worth breaking into a vehicle for. No matter how many times we are all told “Never leave your valuables in the car or on show” it never fails to amaze me how many items I have seen lying about in vehicles, such as wallets, purses, handbags, money, mobile phones, laptops & their bags, MP3 players, large amounts of CD’s other items include the good old Sat Nav’s just because they are fixed to the windscreen, doesn’t mean that its safe, BECAUSE THEY’RE NOT. The list is virtually endless.

If you do have to leave items in your vehicle then please place them out of sight or lock them in the boot. Because be under no illusion, there are people who spend a lot of their time walking about looking into vehicles for such items and all it takes is a few seconds and your precious “I” Pod that was resting on its base has gone. So for the sake of taking a few seconds do please remove your valuables. If you don’t, just think of the hassle in having to contact your insurance company and all that it incurs!

If while I am on foot patrol, I see any such items, I will take the vehicles details as well as the item seen and a letter will be sent to the registered keeper advising them, of what has happened.Remember If I can see an item, so can many others!!!

Now on a more serious note. On the weekend of the 1st March 2008 an incident occurred in Old Bideford Road, Sticklepath, whereby a black coloured dog - about the size of a Staffordshire Terrier, with white markings on one front paw and another on a back paw and wearing a blue collar, entered the rear of a garden and attacked the householder, causing puncture marks and bruising to their leg. The owner retreated indoors and called the police. While waiting for the police to arrive, the owner was able to take photographs of the dog, which I have got copies of. The police arrived, as the officer stepped into the rear garden from the house, he also was attacked; the officer was able to defend himself by spraying the dog with his incapacity spray. The dog then left the garden; the officer was not injured and was able to carry out a search for the dog, unfortunately to no avail, the dog warden also attended. Since then there has been no further sightings or incidents reported to the police, about this dog. I don’t need to draw anybody any pictures, about what could of happened, especially if this had been a child!
During our enquires, the police have spoken to two owners of dogs that fit this description and they have been eliminated from our investigation. If anybody knows the whereabouts of this dog or its owner, I would be grateful if you could please contact me, on the details below.

It has been bought to my attention by members of the publicthat manycyclist's are using the footpaths to ride on, unless it is a designated cycle route or you areabout 12 years of age then you MUST use the road. I know that the roads have become more congested and a dangerous place to be, but it’s no excuse for you to use the pavements, they are for the sole use of pedestrians. If you are seenriding your bike on the pavement then youdo leaveyourself liable to a £30.00 fine. If you are one of our younger readers, who is 12 or under, if you are riding on the pavement then please remember that they are for pedestrians only, so please dismount from your bike and push it past any pedestrians. This rule also applies to skateboarders as well.

EXTRA -Beware Thieves About!

From the beginning of March there has been a spate of   burglaries in the Roundswell and Sticklepath area. These burglaries have taken place overnight whilst the residents were asleep upstairs and some high value personal belongings were taken. The point of entry on at least two of these burglaries were via the garage door which then led to a side door into the kitchen.  I would like to remind all residents to make sure that their property is properly secured before going to bed.
Please contact the Police if you see anybody acting in a suspicious manner.
Please could all residents remain vigilant. Tony Charles PCSO 30093
