A new company can now be seen attending to North Devon’s parks, gardens and open spaces.

The five-year North Devon Council Grounds Maintenance contract has been awarded to national firm Glendale.

The firm is committed to using innovative methods and technology to keep public open spaces across North Devon neat and tidy. This includes the use of a remote control mower for steep banks and slopes, which there are plenty of in North Devon!

Company Engineer Angus Lindsay commented, “Glendale’s innovative approach makes our health and safety program industry leading. The remote controlled mower is designed to work on angles of up to 50°, which would be next to impossible for anybody to work on safely for extended periods of time.”

Other innovative solutions include:
recruiting one apprentice each year of the contract
100% closed-loop recycling
resident and staff surveys to gauge the views of stakeholders
joint induction & training of staff with North Devon Council

Glendale’s Managing Director Nick Temple Heald commented, “The contract model that we have proposed to North Devon emphasises Glendale’s philosophy as a Green Service Provider. Our clients take the benefit of having local management and staff delivering the service supported by the biggest and best back up team in the business.”

“Our success over recent years has been based upon local people delivering our company values of pride, passion and performance on the ground. We are very much looking forward to a long and successful relationship with North Devon Council.”

North Devon Council will have the benefit of over 20 staff dedicated to this new contract, 120 additional Devon based staff available to support the service, with the close support of the Glendale team, the UK’s largest green service provider.

North Devon Council’s Parks and Amenities Manager Alan Beer says: “We were very impressed with the bid from Glendale and we liked their whole approach of caring for the environment and their use of innovation. We are looking forward to working with them to improve and enhance the public open spaces across North Devon.”

Following this contract win, Glendale now hold long term, grounds maintenance contracts with four of the seven district or borough councils in Devon.
