Flooding Issues - Babbages
Babbages estate is subject to frequent flooding in storm conditions. Drainage from this and adjoining estates as well as agricultural land end up flowing through a stone culvert whose ownership and responsibility for maintenance is at present unknown. The culvert passes through many properties and has over the years been built over making access difficult. This is a localised area where the flow is constricted (collapse, root intrusion etc).
The proposal is to divert a portion of the water which flows through the estate andprovide a new pipeline which runs within the highway. This should alleviate the flooding and take the pressure off the system running through the culvert. We will not require any third party permissions but a survey would be necessary to establish levels. Estimated cost is £50K.
Bickington Lodge
Estimated Cost £30K -
This is a second scheme to resolve the flooding problem at Babbages. We have identified a problem with a stone culvert where there is severe root intrusion and possible partial collapse.
We are in the process of contacting the owners of properties about the problem. The alternative would be to divert the culvert away from the properties. There would be land issues and a survey would again be required.

Yelland Straight & Roundswell footway & cycleway network
Proposed new Cycle Link /Footpath
After many years of campaigning with local residents, DCC now propose to create a much needed cycle / footpath link from Yelland to the Tarka Trail. This will be on land alongside the industrial road to the former power station site. Funding of £25 has been allocated in this years budget and the scheme is subject to planning permission being granted.
