This is one of the most popular annual events on the district calendar and this year was no exception. Ten Groups descended upon Ellerslie Road Playing Fields, adjacent to the 50th North Devon Scout Hut, with a total of 32 football teams all eager to fight their corner for their Group and to ultimately win the Shield for their Section.

For the second year running the weather was brilliant, the food good and the standard of play excellent and thanks go to the 50th North Devon for organising the event. As one resident of Ellerslie Road commented “its great to see so many young people enjoying themselves.”

The teams in all sections provided great skills with the “foot and ball” and the competition was high. Some of the semi-finals and finals ended up with penalties to decide the winners, which only proves the standard of play.

The Referees did a brilliant job and with football almost non-stop from 10.30a.m. to 5.00p.m. they certainly worked hard and our thanks go to all of them.

The Winners for the Sections were: Beaver Scouts – 50th North Devon ‘A’; Cub Scouts -Fremington Air Scouts and the Scouts – Fremington Air Scouts ‘A’.
