Have you applied for a Primary School place for your child?

Applications are still open, but you need to act fast!

If you have a child born between 1st September 2005 and 31st August 2006 then you can now apply for a Primary School place in 2010/2011. The system is now open and will remain so until midnight on 15th January 2010.

You can apply online at
www.devon.gov.uk/admissionsonline

The application process enables parents and carers to express a preference for any Primary School in Devon, and Devon County Council will do their best to meet this preference.

If you change your mind about the school you prefer for your child and it is before 15th January 2010, you are able to amend your application online. If it is after this date then you should put your request in writing with your reasons for change and send it to: The Admissions Team, One Capital Court, Bittern Road, Sowton, Exeter EX2 7FW.

After the closing date applications can only be made on paper and you should contact the Education Helpline on 0845 155 1019. In that instance your application will then be treated as ‘late’ and only considered after timely ones where schools are oversubscribed.

Support and Information for Families during the Primary School application process
The Choice Adviser Team offer a free and impartial service available to families who may find it difficult to deal with the primary admissions process. Three advisers are available to support parents and carers in Devon who would like help with information about the application process. Support can be provided by telephone or face to face meetings. Choice Advisers cannot offer or guarantee places at any particular school, influence the primary allocation process or take a decision on behalf of a family.
Contact the Choice Advice Team on 01392 381296 or visit
www.devon.gov.uk/choiceadviser

Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
For children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or children who have a formal Statement of Special Educational Needs the process for the allocation of places is slightly different. You can still submit an application using the online system.
You can get more information from the County Special Education Team on 01392 383913. You may also wish to speak with the Devon Parent Partnership Service which provides information, support and training for parents of children with Special Needs on 01392 383080 or visit www.parentpartnershipdevon.org.uk
