There are many reasons people choose to get involved and help at one of the events Children’s Hospice South West holds throughout the year.
A good many of the charity’s supporters raise funds to highlight the services that have been beneficial to them. Others choose to raise the profile because they believe strongly in the work the charity does with life-limited children and their families.
One such person is Mark Membury. Mark who lives in Barnstaple has been a supporter of CHSW for a number of years and in October will be going that extra mile by offering his skills on the night of the Starpath Memory Walk.
Here Mark tells us what he will be doing and why he chose to support Children’s Hospice South West.
“I have been a supporter of CHSW for a number of years and helped out at previous Starpath Memory Walks. When I heard the charity was looking for a DJ, I was more than happy to assist. I will bring my DJ’ing skills to the event and get the crowds warmed up before they set off on their walk! I have seen first hand the good work Children’s Hospice South West does locally and I am more than happy to help in whatever way I can.”
The Starpath Memory Walk is a 5 or 8 mile sponsored walk along the Tarka Trail that brings together groups of family and friends to raise funds for a good cause usually in memory of someone special. The Starpath walk is unique in that the charity seeks to encourage participation from all age groups. Families, individuals, mums, dads, brothers, sisters, even grandparents are all welcome to walk in honour of someone they love.
Emma Puckey, head of fundraising at Little Bridge House tells us more about the evening:
“The event is an uplifting evening of memories for walkers, volunteers and everyone associated with the occasion. Whatever your reasons for taking part in our Starpath Memory Walk, it’s because of such support we are able to continue the vital work we do for life-limited children and their families. Thank-you for making a difference.”
