On Saturday 1st July, I was invited along to Naturally Yours in Fremington where Will Newitt worked his magic on me with some Craniosacral therapy. Admittedly, I was a little sceptical before I went, being unsure as to what this actually was!
I found my experience to be a very relaxing one, Will asked me to lie down (fully clothed) on his couch and take deep breaths to relax myself. He then gently touched my head with his hands. Will explained to me that the touch needed to be light so as to tune into the patterns of restriction in the body. It was a very strange feeling in that I could feel something happening inside my head and through my body. He then held my feet and worked on re-aligning my mid line. He explained that the body has a ‘tissue memory’ and that trauma such as a car accident, a fall or even a traumatic birth can stay held in the body as a pattern of restriction causing health problems. In my case I had a car accident nine years ago and he felt that there was a strong pull over to my left side, the side effected by the whiplash. I had a very strong tingling sensation in my left hand which was quite strange but Will assured me it was the nerves in my arms releasing.
Will told me that by holding onto points of tension and restriction in the tissues and reflecting them back into the cranio-sacral system the body is often able to let go of old patterns of ill health, thus promoting a relaxed and integrated body and mind.
Craniosacral therapy is so gentle that it is suitable for all ages from birth to the elderly. This means that it is especially suitable for your baby if they suffer from the dreadful colic, often due to the shock of a stressful birth. As well as treating physical ailments such as back or neck pain, IBS and migraine it is also used to treat health issues that are more psychological in origin such as stress or depression.
I would recommend anyone trying a session, even if you feel there is nothing for Will to work on it is a great opportunity to relax and regenerate.
